Speaker Biography
As genealogists, we often use archives to do our work because they are places where public records and documents are stored. Our speaker this month, Dr. Kelly Crager, works at the Vietnam Center and the Sam Johnson Vietnam Archive at Texas Tech University.
Dr. Crager’s job relates to the Oral History Project which provides a documentary record of the Vietnam War and encourages research and education on all aspects of that war.
Dr. Crager holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of North Texas. Before he started his archival work he taught at Texas A&M and Austin Community College.
His book, Hell Under the Rising Sun: Texas POWs and the Building of the Burma-Thailand Death Railway (2008), is part of a Texas A&M Military History series. Dr. Crager is also credited with many written contributions in his history field and is a member of the Society for Military History, the Texas State Historical Association, and the Texas Oral History Association.
